Where is Mathura Vrindavan located?

Mathura and Vrindavan are twin holy towns in the state of Uttar Pradesh, in the north of India. They sit in the region known as Braj, or Brij Bhoomi, the land of Krishna, on the banks of the river Yamuna, roughly at 27 degrees north. How far apart are Mathura and Vrindavan?

Though spoken of as one, Mathura and Vrindavan are two separate towns, about 12 to 15 kilometres apart, roughly half an hour by road. Mathura is the birthplace of Krishna and the busier town; Vrindavan, to its north, is the town of his childhood, dense with temples.
