📌 QUICK ANSWER
Vrindavan is 180 km from Delhi via the Yamuna Expressway roughly 3 hours 17 minutes by car on a clear day. The fastest train option is the Shatabdi Express from New Delhi station, reaching Mathura Junction in 1 hour 19 minutes, then 14 km by auto or cab to Vrindavan. Buses from Kashmiri Gate or Sarai Kale Khan cost ₹150-₹500. Experience My India arranges direct AC cab pickups from anywhere in Delhi. Call or WhatsApp +91-7302265809.
Let me tell you something I have seen play out at least a hundred times. Someone arrives at Mathura Junction at 2 PM. They took a mid-morning train, thinking that was fine and then discovered their cab to Vrindavan is going to take 50 minutes in the afternoon traffic. By the time they reach Banke Bihari Temple it is 3:15 PM and the doors are closed for the afternoon. They have come all the way from Delhi and their first darshan has already slipped away.
I am Gurudutt, born and raised in Braj Bhoomi, guiding pilgrims through Mathura and Vrindavan since 2018. In eight years I have helped more than 50,000 pilgrims plan this exact journey from Delhi by car, train, bus, cab and every combination in between. The route from Delhi to Vrindavan is not complicated, but the timing and the last few kilometres into Vrindavan are where most first-time visitors lose hours.
This guide gives you every option in plain numbers, distances, fares, train names, metro stops, airport transfer steps and the local knowledge that turns a frustrating journey into a smooth beginning to your yatra.
Delhi to Vrindavan Distance The Numbers You Need
Vrindavan is not a single-point destination for navigation purposes. The distance changes based on where in Delhi you start and which route you take. Here are the three main road options and what they actually look like in practice:
Route | Distance | Estimated Time | Condition |
Via Yamuna Expressway (NH 19) | 184 km | 3 hr 17 min | Fastest tolls apply (₹415 round trip). Recommended for most travellers. |
Via NH 44 (GT Road direction) | 178 km | 4 hr 23 min | Longer time despite shorter distance heavier traffic through Faridabad and Agra Road. |
Via Noida-Greater Noida Expy + Yamuna Expy | 180 km | 3 hr 19 min | Good alternative if you are starting from East or South Delhi or Noida. |
Practical reality: The Yamuna Expressway route is the clear winner for almost every traveller from Delhi. It is a 6-lane expressway with minimal traffic lights between Greater Noida and Mathura. The toll is ₹205 one-way at the Mathura toll plaza. Factor this into your cab negotiation or self-drive budget.
From Mathura, Vrindavan is a further 14 km. This final stretch typically takes 25 to 45 minutes depending on the day and time lanes inside Vrindavan are narrow and shared with cows, e-rickshaws and pedestrians.
For a direct, door-to-door pickup from anywhere in Delhi, Experience My India arranges private AC cabs that take you straight to your Hotels in Mathura Vrindavan or the temple of your choice. Call +91-7302265809 to get a confirmed fare quote.
How to Reach Vrindavan from Delhi by Road (Car / Cab)
Driving or hiring a cab from Delhi is the most flexible and most popular option for families and groups. You set your own timing, stop where you want and arrive directly at your hotel without managing bags through stations.
Recommended Route: Yamuna Expressway
From Delhi, take NH 19 towards Greater Noida and pick up the Yamuna Expressway at the Greater Noida interchange. The expressway runs 165 km straight to Mathura; it is a smooth, well-lit road with emergency help booths every 25 km. Exit at Mathura Toll Plaza, then take the road towards Vrindavan (14 km).
Option | Estimated Cost (One Way) | Travel Time | Best For |
Self-drive (own car) | Fuel (₹800) + toll (₹205) | 3 hr 15 min | Maximum flexibility start whenever you want |
Outstation cab (Ola/Uber) | ₹2,800-₹4,200 | 3 hr 30 min | Budget couples or solo travellers book night before |
Private AC cab via EMI | ₹3,200-₹3,800 | 3 hr 15 min | Families, seniors, groups driver knows Vrindavan lanes |
Shared taxi (Mathura-Vrindavan leg) | ₹20-₹30 per seat | 40-60 min | Once you are already in Mathura cheapest last leg |
Timing note: Leaving Delhi by 6:00 AM gets you to Vrindavan by 9:15-9:30 AM the ideal time to start darshan before the afternoon closures begin. Leaving after 9:00 AM on weekends puts you in the lunch-time temple closure window, which means you wait at least 3 hours before any major temple opens again.
Experience My India arranges full-day and same-day private AC cab services from Delhi. The cab picks you up at your door, your hotel or from Delhi airport and drops you directly at the Vrindavan temple of your choice. Call +91-7302265809 or see our Same Day Mathura Vrindavan Tour from ₹1,999 per person.

Mathura Junction (station code: MTJ) is 14 km from Vrindavan, a clean, well-connected station with pre-paid auto and cab counters.

There is no direct Vande Bharat Express that stops at Mathura Junction on the Delhi-Mathura route as of June 2026. The Gatimaan Express (train 12050) India's fastest train on this corridor is the closest equivalent, covering Delhi to Mathura in 1 hour 17 minutes at speeds up to 160 km/h. How to Reach Vrindavan from Delhi by Bus
Buses are the most budget-friendly way to travel this route, with the added bonus that some buses now drop you directly at Vrindavan bus stand rather than Mathura. For solo travellers, students and pilgrims travelling light, this is the simplest option.
Bus Type | Boarding Points in Delhi | Approx Fare | Travel Time | Drops At |
UPSRTC Government Bus | ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Anand Vihar | ₹120-₹180 | 3.5-4.5 hrs | Mathura Bus Stand (then 14 km to Vrindavan) |
Private AC Semi-Sleeper | Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar, Karol Bagh | ₹250-₹400 | 3-4 hrs | Mathura or direct Vrindavan depending on service |
AC Volvo / Premium Bus | Multiple Delhi pickup points via redBus / AbhiBus | ₹400-₹700 | 3-3.5 hrs | Mathura city last leg by auto or e-rickshaw |
Night Bus (Sleeper) | Kashmiri Gate, Anand Vihar | ₹350-₹600 | 3.5-4.5 hrs | Arrive Mathura 5:00-6:00 AM good for Mangala Aarti |
Practical tip: UPSRTC has added 15 new AC buses on the Delhi-Vrindavan/Mathura corridor. Online booking is available on the UPSRTC website with UPI payment. For the night bus option, arriving in Mathura at 5 AM gives you time to freshen up and reach Vrindavan for the ISKCON Mangala Aarti at 4:30 AM or Banke Bihari's 7:45 AM opening.
One thing bus travellers often miss: the last leg from Mathura bus stand to Vrindavan. Book a pre-paid auto at the counter just outside the bus stand exit fare is ₹150-₹200 for the 14-km ride. Avoid the shared auto-rickshaws that circle the bus stand quoting inflated tourist rates.
How to Go to Vrindavan from Delhi by Metro
There is no metro service that runs directly to Mathura or Vrindavan Delhi Metro's network ends within the National Capital Region. However, the metro is extremely useful for reaching the correct bus boarding points from anywhere within Delhi.
Metro to Bus-Step by Step
Your Location in Delhi | Metro Route | Get Off At | Then Do This |
North / Central Delhi | Any line to Yellow Line | Kashmiri Gate (interchange) | Walk to ISBT Kashmiri Gate buses to Mathura/Vrindavan every 30-60 mins |
East Delhi / Noida | Blue Line or Pink Line | Anand Vihar (interchange) | Anand Vihar ISBT direct buses to Mathura and Vrindavan |
South Delhi / Faridabad | Violet Line | Sarai Kale Khan / Hazrat Nizamuddin | Many private buses and UPSRTC depart from here |
IGI Airport area | Orange (Airport) Line | New Delhi or Shivaji Stadium | Connect to bus stand via Yellow Line or take a direct cab |
Metro ticket cost to Kashmiri Gate: ₹20-₹60 depending on your starting station. Kashmiri Gate is on both Yellow and Red lines one of Delhi Metro's largest interchange stations. From there, ISBT Kashmiri Gate is a 3-minute walk. Metro tokens and smart cards both work at all stations.
If you are travelling with luggage, elderly family members or a group, the metro-plus-bus combination adds time and physical effort. A direct cab booked through Experience My India (+91-7302265809) from your Delhi address is more practical in those cases.
How to Reach Vrindavan from Delhi Airport
Indira Gandhi International Airport (Delhi IGI) is 160-165 km from Vrindavan. It is not particularly far from the Yamuna Expressway which connects very smoothly from the southern Delhi area but you need to plan the airport exit correctly.
Option | Journey | Approx Cost | Time | Notes |
Pre-booked AC cab (door to door) | Airport → Vrindavan direct | ₹3,500-₹4,500 | 3 hr 30 min | The best option driver meets you at arrivals. Book 24 hrs ahead. |
Ola/Uber Outstation from airport | Airport → Vrindavan via app | ₹3,200-₹4,800 | 3 hr 30-45 min | Surge pricing at peak hours check fare before confirming |
Airport Metro + ISBT bus | Orange Line → New Delhi/Kashmiri Gate → bus | ₹100-₹200 metro + ₹150-₹350 bus | 5-6 hrs total | Budget option heavy luggage makes this tiring |
Pre-paid taxi from airport | Taxi counter inside arrivals | ₹4,000-₹5,500 | 3 hr 30 min | Convenient but expensive fixed government rate |
Recommended route from airport: Take NH 48 from the airport towards Gurugram, then NH 248A to connect to the Yamuna Expressway at Faridabad. This avoids the congested Delhi ring road completely. Travel time on this route is 3 hours 15-30 minutes outside rush hour.
Experience My India provides airport pickup packages as part of all multi-day tours. Your driver is at the arrivals gate with your name and is familiar with Vrindavan temple lanes. To arrange a standalone airport transfer, WhatsApp +91-7302265809 with your flight details. We respond within 2 hours.

Getting Around Vrindavan After You Arrive
This is the section most Delhi-to-Vrindavan guides skip and it is where trips go wrong. Getting to Mathura is the easy part. Navigating the 14 km from Mathura to Vrindavan and then moving between temples inside Vrindavan's narrow lanes requires its own plan.
Mode | Cost | Good For | Practical Note |
E-rickshaw (shared) | ₹20-₹30 per ride | Budget solo travel or short hops | Slow in crowds lanes near Banke Bihari get congested after 10 AM |
E-rickshaw (full day hire) | ₹300-₹500 for full day | Families, seniors, 4-5 temple circuit | Negotiate the full-day rate upfront cover all temples without rebooking |
Private cab (booked) | Included in EMI packages | Groups, families, airport pickups | Pre-arranged cab with a driver who knows Vrindavan's restricted zones |
Walking | Free | Short hops between Banke Bihari and nearby temples | Most of old Vrindavan is walkable lanes are shaded in winter |
Auto-rickshaw (three-wheeler) | ₹30-₹80 per ride | Mathura city not inside old Vrindavan | Most autos cannot enter the narrow lanes near Banke Bihari |
Important: Private cars and most cabs cannot enter the lanes within 200-300 metres of Banke Bihari Temple. Your driver will park at a designated point and you walk the last stretch. This is normal our Experience My India drivers know exactly where to stop and how long the walk is from each parking point.
Ground Truth-What Nobody Tells You Before the Journey
After eight years of doing this route every week with 50,000+ pilgrims, here is what I keep seeing trip people up:
Leaving Delhi at 8-9 AM on a weekend is the worst timing. Sunday morning traffic on NH 19 near the Greater Noida stretch adds 30-60 minutes before you even hit the Yamuna Expressway. If your plan is a same-day trip, leave by 6:00 AM from Central Delhi or 5:30 AM from South Delhi to arrive before the Mathura-Vrindavan morning darshan window closes at noon.
The last 14 km from Mathura to Vrindavan takes 3× longer than expected. Google Maps shows this as a 20-minute drive. On a festival weekend or during Janmashtami, this leg alone can take 90 minutes. If you are arriving by train and have an auto, allow 45 minutes minimum from Mathura station to Banke Bihari Temple.
Mathura and Vrindavan are not the same place. Mathura Junction is 14 km from Vrindavan. Trains go to Mathura Junction, not to Vrindavan directly (Vrindavan has its own station but very few trains stop there). Always budget the extra transfer.
Auto drivers at Mathura station quote ₹300-₹400 for the Vrindavan leg on busy days. The real pre-paid rate is ₹150-₹200 for the entire auto (3 people). Use the pre-paid counter just past the main station exit; it is staffed and the rates are fixed.
There is no direct flight to Vrindavan. Agra Airport (AGR) is 55 km away and has very limited flights. Delhi IGI is the practical flying option 160 km away, 3.5 hours by road. Anyone telling you there is a close airport is talking about Agra, which adds its own transfer complexity.
Know Before You Travel
Book train tickets at least 2-3 days in advance on IRCTC during Janmashtami (September 2026) and Holi, book 30-60 days ahead as Shatabdi and Gatimaan sell out within hours.
All major temples in Vrindavan close between 12:00 PM and 4:30 PM. Arriving in Vrindavan after 11:30 AM means waiting 3+ hours before any darshan is possible.
Carry only a small cloth bag into temples, large backpacks and trolleys cannot be taken in. Leave big luggage at your hotel or the cloak room at Mathura station.
Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura requires all electronics including mobile phones to be deposited before entry. Factor 15-20 extra minutes for the cloak room queue.
Yamuna Expressway toll is ₹205 one-way for a car. Round trip is ₹410. Carry cash or use FASTag FASTag lanes move significantly faster at peak hours.
For a couple, a self-drive or cab trip from Delhi costs ₹3,500-₹4,500 including fuel and tolls. An Experience My India guided day package from ₹3,499 per person removes all navigation and logistics stress.
Vrindavan trip cost for 2 persons on a 2-day package with Experience My India starts from ₹6,998 total hotel, cab, guide, breakfast included.
WhatsApp +91-7302265809 the evening before your trip for real-time temple timing updates festival schedules shift darshan windows by 30-60 minutes and our team tracks these daily.
Plan Your Delhi to Vrindavan Trip with Experience My India
The journey from Delhi to Vrindavan is 180 km of expressway and 14 km of narrow Braj lanes and the second part matters more than the first. Getting the departure time right, knowing the transfer at Mathura Junction and arriving before the noon temple closures are the three things that separate a smooth yatra from a frustrating one.
