📌 QUICK ANSWER

Mathura and Vrindavan sit about 12 to 13 km apart by road, roughly half an hour and the wider Braj region is about 160 km from Delhi (three hours by expressway), about 55 to 60 km from Agra (just over an hour) and about 3.5 hours from Gurgaon. Trains reach Mathura Junction from every direction; verify times on IRCTC. Distances below cover every major city, with honest road times, not map estimates. Key takeaways

  • Mathura to Vrindavan is about 12 to 13 km, roughly half an hour by road.

  • Delhi to Braj is about 160 km, three hours by the Yamuna Expressway, longer with NCR traffic.

  • Agra to Mathura is about 55 to 60 km, just over an hour, which is why the two pair naturally.

  • The honest Delhi airport to Braj transfer is 3.5 to 4.5 hours, not the two hours maps suggest.

  • Trains reach Mathura Junction from every direction; always verify times and fares on IRCTC.

I am Gurudutt, born in Gokul, in the heart of Braj, guiding pilgrims since 2018. Distance questions reach me every day and most distance pages online just copy a map figure and stop. I will give you the honest version: not only the kilometres, but the real travel time once traffic and the final narrow lanes are counted, because a pilgrim who plans on the map figure lands to a closed temple gate. Plan the whole trip with me through our Mathura Vrindavan tour package or WhatsApp +91 7302265809.

Mathura Vrindavan distance at a glance

Here are the distances pilgrims ask for most, with honest road times. Kilometres are approximate and road times assume normal traffic; festival days and NCR rush add to every figure. For rail, verify on IRCTC, since I print no train times that can go stale.

Distance between Mathura and Vrindavan

Mathura and Vrindavan are about 12 to 13 km apart by road, roughly half an hour in normal traffic and longer on weekends and festival days. This is the distance most first time pilgrims underestimate: some book a Vrindavan hotel expecting to walk to Mathura's Krishna Janmabhoomi, which is not walkable. Plan the transit time into every half day. E rickshaws, autos and cabs all run the route; inside each town's old lanes, you finish on foot or by e rickshaw because cars cannot reach the inner temples. Darshan is free at every temple in both towns.

Mathura Vrindavan distance from Delhi

Delhi to Mathura is about 160 km by the Yamuna Expressway, around three hours by private car in normal traffic. This is the most common approach for pilgrims from across India who fly into Delhi first. The expressway is smooth, but leave before sunrise to beat the NCR rush both ways and to reach Banke Bihari inside its morning darshan window. By train, Mathura Junction connects to Delhi frequently; verify current options and fares on IRCTC. From Delhi railway stations the journey is short by fast trains, but exact timings change, so check them on the day of booking.

Mathura Vrindavan distance from Agra and the Taj Mahal

Agra to Mathura is about 55 to 60 km, just over an hour by road, which is why Agra and Braj pair so naturally into one trip. The Taj Mahal to Mathura is a similar distance. Many pilgrims add an Agra day to their Braj yatra and the two sit on the Delhi to Mathura route. One honest note: the Taj Mahal entry ticket is never inside a tour package price; it is paid separately to the government by every visitor. Our Mathura Vrindavan itinerary shows how an Agra day fits a four or five day plan.

Mathura Vrindavan distance from Gurgaon, Noida and NCR

Gurgaon to Braj is about 180 km, roughly 3.5 to 4 hours depending on how long it takes to clear the city and reach the expressway. Noida to Braj is a little shorter, about 150 km and roughly three hours, since Noida sits closer to the expressway entry. For all NCR origins, the variable is not the expressway itself but the time to get onto it; an early start is worth more than any shortcut. The route is the same Yamuna Expressway that carries Delhi traffic.

Mathura Vrindavan distance from Jaipur

Jaipur to Braj is about 230 km, roughly four to five hours by road, making it a comfortable one way drive for a weekend yatra from Rajasthan. Many Jaipur and Rajasthan families combine Braj with their existing pilgrimage circuits. Trains also connect Jaipur toward Mathura; verify current options on IRCTC.

Mathura Vrindavan distance from other cities

For pilgrims coming from further afield, the practical answer is almost always to reach Delhi or Mathura Junction first, then cover the last stretch by road. Here are common origins as rough guides, all to be confirmed against live maps and IRCTC for rail:

From

Approx distance to Braj

Usual approach

Lucknow

about 350 km

Kanpur

about 300 km

Train to Mathura Junction

Chandigarh

Bhopal

about 500 km

Train to Mathura Junction

Ayodhya

about 450 km

Haridwar

about 250 km

From distant metros like Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Bangalore and Hyderabad, the train to Mathura Junction or a flight to Delhi is the sensible choice; our source city guides cover those connections in full as they publish.

Distances within Braj

Once you are in Braj, the sacred sites sit close together, which is what makes a two or three day circuit possible. These are the internal hops most pilgrims make:

How to travel each route

For intercity distances, a private car with a driver who knows Braj is the family choice, especially with elders; the train is the value choice for solo pilgrims and groups, always verified on IRCTC. Within Braj, the car earns its keep between towns and e rickshaws rule the last kilometre in the old lanes. Buses run from Delhi and Agra for tight budgets, at the cost of transfer friction. Our banke bihari temple timing guide explains why the darshan windows, not the distances, should shape your day order.

Ground truth on travel times

The most useful thing on this page is not a kilometre figure, it is this honesty about time. Maps show Delhi to Braj at about 180 km and estimate around two hours, but NCR traffic and the final narrow lanes add an hour or more on most days, so plan for 3.5 to 4.5 hours from the Delhi airport. If your flight lands in the late afternoon, plan the evening darshan for the next day, not day one. And remember the 12 to 13 km between Mathura and Vrindavan on every half day, because that transit is the hop pilgrims most often forget to budget.

Why Experience My India is the right choice

I was born in Gokul Mahaban Bangar and I have guided Braj since 2018: more than 50,000 pilgrims, 4.5 stars across 204 Google reviews. We are WhatsApp first, 8 AM to 9 PM daily, with packages from Rs 5,999 per person. We plan your arrivals around the real travel times and the temple windows, so your long journey is never wasted at a closed gate and we tell you the honest hours, not the map figure.

Tip from Gurudutt: whatever your origin, aim to reach Vrindavan the evening before your first darshan, not the same morning. A tired arrival at midday meets closed temple gates; a rested arrival at dawn meets Bihariji as the town wakes. The distance is the same, the yatra is completely different.

Agra Mathura Vrindavan Tour from Delhi: The Taj and Braj Darshan in One Trip, by a Braj Born Guide

An Agra Mathura Vrindavan tour from Delhi combines the Taj Mahal with Braj darshan in a single loop, best done over two to three days: Delhi to Agra (about 230 km), Agra to Mathura and Vrindavan (about 55 to 60 km), and back to Delhi (about 160 km). Darshan at all temples is free and there is no VIP pass at Banke Bihari, while the Taj Mahal ticket is always paid separately to the government, never inside a package.
