📌 QUICK ANSWER

The Agra Mathura Vrindavan tour by car is best done as a one day or two day trip, covering about 130 to 150 km, with Mathura about 55 km from Agra and Vrindavan about 70 to 75 km, an hour to an hour and a half each by the Yamuna Expressway. A private car is much the easiest way to see the Taj city and the land of Krishna together at your own pace. Darshan in Braj is free; the Taj ticket is paid separately. I am Gurudutt, born in Gokul in the Mathura district, guiding pilgrims through Braj since 2018: more than 50,000 of them. Agra, the city of the Taj and Mathura and Vrindavan, the land of Krishna, lie close together in the west of Uttar Pradesh, joined by the smooth Yamuna Expressway, so that the three make one of the most rewarding short tours in all of India, the wonder of the world and the birthplace of the Lord in a single trip. And the best way to do it, by far, is by car, at your own pace. Here is my complete guide to the Agra Mathura Vrindavan tour by car: the route, the distances, a day by day plan and how to travel it, told by someone born on this soil. Book the one day Mathura Vrindavan Agra tour, message on WhatsApp at +91 7302265809, any day from 8 AM to 9 PM.

Why do the Agra Mathura Vrindavan tour by car?

There are buses and trains between Agra and Braj, but for a tour that takes in three places and many sights scattered across two cities and a temple town, a private car is far and away the best way and this is why most visitors choose it. A car carries you smoothly along the expressway in an hour or so between each place, waits for you at the Taj and at each temple where the buses do not, moves you at your own pace and on your own timing around the darshan hours and the Taj’s closing day and spares you the crowds, the changes and the waiting of public transport. For a family, for the elderly or for anyone who wishes to see the most in a day or two without exhaustion, the car is the sensible and comfortable choice and it turns a rushed scramble into a gracious journey. Our Mathura Vrindavan taxi service provides the car and a driver who knows every road and temple hour.

The route and the distances

The three places sit in a neat triangle in the west of Uttar Pradesh, all joined by good roads and the Yamuna Expressway. Agra lies to the south, on the Yamuna; Mathura is about fifty five kilometres north of it, an easy hour by road; and Vrindavan is about fifteen kilometres beyond Mathura, some seventy to seventy five kilometres from Agra in all. The whole loop of Agra to Mathura to Vrindavan and back is only about a hundred and thirty to a hundred and fifty kilometres, well within a comfortable day or two by car. The table gives the distances by road.

A one day Agra Mathura Vrindavan tour by car

The tour can be done in a single long day by car, if you begin early, though it will be full. A good plan, if you are staying in Agra, is to see the Taj Mahal at sunrise, when it is loveliest and coolest, then drive up the expressway to Mathura by mid morning for the Krishna Janmabhoomi, the sacred birthplace and on to Vrindavan for the midday and afternoon, taking in the beloved Banke Bihari, the dazzling Prem Mandir and the ISKCON temple, before driving back to Agra by evening. It is a rewarding day, but a full one and best only if your time is short. Those who begin from Delhi instead make it a longer day or, far better, an overnight. Our same day Agra Mathura Vrindavan tour guide has the single day plan in detail.

Midday

A two day Agra Mathura Vrindavan tour by car

Far better, if you can spare the time, is to give the tour two days, which lets you see all three properly and without the rush. A lovely plan is to give the first day to Agra, the Taj Mahal at sunrise, the mighty Agra Fort and perhaps the little Taj across the river, then drive up to Mathura or Vrindavan in the evening and stay the night in Braj. The second day is then free for Mathura and Vrindavan at an unhurried pace, the Janmabhoomi and a ghat in Mathura and the great temples of Vrindavan with time for an evening aarti, before your onward journey. This two day plan is the one I most often recommend, for it does justice to both the wonder of the Taj and the depth of Braj. Our Agra Mathura Vrindavan tour package guide sets out the fuller plan.

A two day Agra Mathura Vrindavan tour by car. The relaxed and recommended plan.

Day 1

Agra: Taj Mahal, Agra Fort; drive to Braj by evening

Day 2

Mathura and Vrindavan: temples and an evening aarti

What to see on the tour

The three places together hold some of the greatest sights in India. In Agra there is the Taj Mahal, the white marble wonder of the world, the monument of love, loveliest at sunrise; the mighty red Agra Fort of the Mughals; and the delicate tomb of Itmad ud Daula, the little Taj. In Mathura, the birthplace of Krishna, there is the sacred Krishna Janmabhoomi, the Dwarkadhish temple and the Vishram Ghat with its evening aarti. And in Vrindavan, the land of Krishna’s play, the beloved Banke Bihari, the dazzling marble Prem Mandir, the ISKCON temple, the mysterious Nidhivan and a hundred more. From the wonder of the Taj to the depth of the temples, the tour is a feast for the eye and the soul alike. Our places to visit near the Taj Mahal guide covers Agra and the tourist places in Mathura and Vrindavan guide the two holy cities.

Where to start: Agra, Delhi or elsewhere

Many who do this tour begin from Agra itself, having come to see the Taj and add Mathura and Vrindavan by car as above. Others begin from Delhi, about two hundred kilometres from Agra by the expressway and make the whole a two or three day loop of Delhi, Agra and Braj, one of the classic journeys of north India. Still others come from further away, by train to Agra or Mathura, both well connected across the country and take a car from there. Whichever your start, the car is the thread that joins the scattered sights into a smooth journey. For those beginning at the Taj city, our one day Mathura Vrindavan Agra tour and the fuller Agra Mathura Vrindavan tour by car set it all out.

When to do the tour

The cool months of October to March are much the best for the Agra Mathura Vrindavan tour, pleasant for the Taj and its gardens and for the temples and ghats of Braj alike and the great festivals of Krishna, Janmashtami and Holi, fall in this happy season and around it, magnificent though crowded. The peak summer of May and June is punishingly hot for both the marble of the Taj and the lanes of the temples, so the cool season is far kinder. Remember always that the Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, so plan the Agra part of the tour for another day. Our best time to visit Mathura Vrindavan guide is the full year.

The honest bit

Honest words on the Agra Mathura Vrindavan tour by car, from one born in Braj. The distances are short and the roads good, so agree your car fare in advance and beware anyone who inflates the distance or the price. In Braj, darshan everywhere is free and no official VIP pass exists at Banke Bihari or anywhere in the land, whatever a tout may promise. At Agra, the Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays and its entry ticket is paid separately to the government and must never be bundled into a car or tour price; beware anyone who claims to include it. Do not try to cram too much into a single day: it can be done, but two days is far more rewarding and it is better to see the Taj and the temples well than to gallop through them exhausted. Plan by the temple hours, the Taj’s closing day and the cool of the season, keep your car fare clear and the Taj ticket separate and this tour will give you one of the finest short journeys in all of India.

Why Experience My India is the right choice

I was born in Gokul Mahaban Bangar, in the Mathura district and both Braj and its great neighbour Agra are my own home ground. Guiding since 2018, more than 50,000 pilgrims, 4.5 stars across 204 Google reviews, WhatsApp first, 8 AM to 9 PM daily. What a local brings to the Agra Mathura Vrindavan tour by car is the sensible ordering of the three so you see the most in your day or two without wasted driving, the timing around the temple hours and the Taj’s Friday closure, the honest word on free darshan and the separate Taj ticket, a good car and a driver who knows every road and the stories of each place told on the ground. One clear fare and never a charge for free darshan.

Tip from Gurudutt: if you possibly can, give this tour two days rather than one and stay a night in Braj. See the Taj at sunrise on the first day, when it is coolest and most beautiful and least crowded and give the temples of Mathura and Vrindavan the second day unhurried, ending with an evening aarti by the Yamuna. Done in a single day it is a fine but tiring dash; done in two, with a car to carry you smoothly between them, it becomes one of the most gracious and complete short journeys in India, the wonder of the world and the birthplace of the Lord side by side.
