Every major temple shuts for a few hours in the middle of the day, whatever distance you have travelled. Ground truth, what nobody tells you

• The cab from Delhi airport to Braj takes 3.5 to 4.5 hours, not 2. Maps show about 180 km and estimate less, but Delhi NCR traffic and the final lanes add an hour or more most days. If your flight lands in the late afternoon, plan the evening darshan for the next day, not day one.

• Mathura Junction and Vrindavan are about 12 km apart. Some Bangalore pilgrims book a Vrindavan hotel expecting to walk to Mathura's temples. Plan the transit time into every half day.

• The Karnataka Express 12627 does stop at Mathura Junction, daily. Some agents wrongly say it does not. Check the running status on IRCTC two days before travel, since diversions are rare but possible.

• Three focused darshans beat eight rushed ones. After flying 2,000 km, families want to see everything, but a few minutes pushed through a sanctum is not a darshan. Our advice is 3 to 5 temples a day, with real time at each.

• Krishna Janmabhoomi bans all electronics at the gate. Phones, cameras, power banks and smartwatches go to the cloakroom and the queue is longest in the late morning. Sequence your Mathura morning around it.
