📌 QUICK ANSWER

The distance from Govardhan to Radha Kund is about 4.6 km, roughly a 13 minute drive via the Govardhan Parikrama Marg, which is the best and fastest route despite the usual traffic. A longer alternative via Maharaja Surajmal Road is about 6.7 km, around 16 minutes. Coming back, Radha Kund to Govardhan is the same 4.6 km on the Parikrama Marg, about 17 minutes or 5.5 km via the Govardhan Bypass Road. Both villages sit on the parikrama path, so many pilgrims simply include Radha Kund in their Govardhan circuit. To plan it with a local guide, call or WhatsApp +91 7302265809.

If you are at Govardhan, you are only minutes away from Radha Kund, which many devotees hold to be the single most sacred spot in all of Braj, the bathing kund of Shri Radha herself. The two sit on the same Govardhan Parikrama Marg, so the trip is short and easy. Here is the exact distance, the routes in both directions and my local tips so you can add this most precious darshan to your Govardhan visit without any confusion. Plan your visit with our Mathura Vrindavan tour packages.

Govardhan to Radha Kund: Distance and Routes

Here are the driving routes between Govardhan and Radha Kund, in both directions. Both places lie on the Govardhan Parikrama Marg, so the trip is short.

Key Takeaways at a Glance

  • Distance: about 4.6 km between Govardhan and Radha Kund by the best route.

  • Time: roughly a 13 to 17 minute drive, more when the parikrama marg is crowded.

  • Best route: the Govardhan Parikrama Marg, direct and the one most pilgrims use.

  • On the circuit: Radha Kund sits on the Govardhan parikrama, so it fits naturally into the walk or drive.

  • Most sacred: Radha Kund is revered as the holiest kund in Braj, so plan unhurried time there.

A Word From Your Guide

I am Gurudutt, born in Gokul and guiding pilgrims through Braj since 2018, more than fifty thousand of them over the years. Radha Kund is a place I always urge my guests not to miss and the lovely thing is that from Govardhan it is barely a few minutes away. Many visitors do the Govardhan parikrama and pass right by Radha Kund without realising what it is. In this guide I will give you the exact distance and routes and explain why this short hop leads to one of the most spiritually charged spots in the whole of Braj.

The Best Route: Govardhan Parikrama Marg

The most direct way from Giriraj Govardhan to Radha Kund and Shyam Kund is along the Govardhan Parikrama Marg, about 4.6 km and roughly a 13 minute drive. This is the road the parikrama itself follows, so it is the natural path between the two and the one almost every pilgrim uses. Despite the usual traffic it remains the fastest route and it keeps you on the sacred circuit the whole way.

The Alternative Routes

If the parikrama marg is congested, there are slightly longer options. From Govardhan you can go via Maharaja Surajmal Road, about 6.7 km and around 16 minutes. On the return from Radha Kund to Govardhan, the Govardhan Bypass Road is about 5.5 km and 16 minutes, which can be useful when festival crowds fill the parikrama path. For most pilgrims, though, the Parikrama Marg is both the shortest and the most meaningful way to travel between them.

Radha Kund on the Govardhan Parikrama

Here is what makes this trip special: Radha Kund is not a detour from Govardhan, it is part of the Govardhan parikrama itself. The two sacred kunds, Radha Kund and the adjoining Shyam Kund, sit right on the parikrama marg, so pilgrims walking the circuit arrive at them naturally. If you are doing the full Govardhan parikrama, you will pass Radha Kund on the way; if you are driving, this short 4.6 km hop brings you straight to it. Plan your timing with our guide to the best time to visit Mathura and Vrindavan, as the kunds are busiest on festival days.

Why Radha Kund Is So Revered

A word on where this short drive leads, because Radha Kund is held by many to be the holiest place in all of Braj. In the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition it is revered as the very embodiment of Shri Radha, her own bathing kund and devotees believe that a bath here on the sacred night of Bahulashtami, in the month of Kartik, is especially auspicious, prayed for by couples longing for a child and by all who seek Radha's grace. Beside it lies Shyam Kund, Krishna's kund. To stand between the two at dusk, as the lamps are lit on the stone ghats, is one of the most moving experiences in Braj. Please treat it with great reverence; this is a place of deep devotion, not a sightseeing stop.

Practical Tips for the Trip

  • Take the Parikrama Marg for the shortest route and the proper pilgrim path.

  • Go early morning or near dusk, when the kunds are at their most beautiful and cool.

  • Dress modestly and remove shoes at the ghats, as at all sacred kunds.

  • Do not swim or play; the kunds are for reverent darshan and ritual bathing only.

  • Expect heavy crowds on Bahulashtami, Ekadashi and Kartik days and plan extra time.

  • Keep the ghats clean; carry your waste away and respect the sanctity of the water.

The Honest Bit

Let me be honest, because this short trip deserves it. The distance is nothing, under 5 km, but Radha Kund is not a place to rush in and out of in the way you might treat a quick photo stop. On busy festival days the lanes around the kunds are extremely crowded and the parikrama marg slows to a crawl, so give yourself far more time than the 13 minutes the map promises. And please come with the right spirit: this is, for countless devotees, the most sacred ground in Braj, so quiet reverence matters more here than anywhere. If you only have time to sit quietly by one kund in all of your Braj trip, let it be this one. For a comfortable base near Govardhan, see our list of Mathura and Vrindavan hotels.

Why Experience My India Is the Right Choice

I am Gurudutt, born in Gokul, guiding pilgrims through Braj since 2018, more than fifty thousand of them by now. For Govardhan and Radha Kund a local makes all the difference: we know when the parikrama marg is clear, where to park, how to reach the kunds through the lanes and how to plan your day so you have unhurried time at Radha Kund rather than a rushed glimpse. We arrange your Mathura Vrindavan taxi, plan the full Govardhan circuit and look after your stay, all at one clear fare with no surprises. We are a Ministry of Tourism certified operator with a fleet of more than fifty vehicles, rated 4.5 stars and we answer on WhatsApp from 8 AM to 9 PM.

Tip from Gurudutt: When you reach Radha Kund, do not hurry. Sit on the stone steps for a while, let the quiet settle and remember that Brajwasis believe this is Shri Radha's own kund, the holiest water in all of Braj. The 4.6 km from Govardhan is the shortest of drives, but it carries you to the very heart of Braj devotion. Light a lamp, offer a prayer and let Radha Rani bless your journey; the short trip will become the moment you remember most from your whole pilgrimage.

Sati Burj Mathura: The Historic Red Sandstone Tower on the Yamuna

Sati Burj is a 17 metre (about 55 foot) tall, four-storey red sandstone tower in Mathura, built in 1570 AD by Raja Bhagwant Das of Amber (Jaipur) in memory of his mother. It stands near the Asikunda Ghat and Vishram Ghat on the banks of the Yamuna, in the heart of the old city and is considered one of the oldest standing medieval relics in Mathura. Its upper sections were damaged during the reign of Aurangzeb and a plaster dome was added later. It is a short walk from Vishram Ghat and the Dwarkadhish Temple, so most pilgrims see it as part of their riverfront visit.
