Ramanreti Ashram Timings

The temple and ashram are open to pilgrims throughout the year (except on eclipses). The complex closes in the afternoon for rest.

Morning: 5:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Daily Aarti and "Radha" the Elephant

A major attraction of the ashram is the daily Aarti.

Morning Aarti: Performed at 7:00 AM.
Evening Aarti: Performed at 6:00 PM (Summer) and 5:00 PM (Winter).

A unique tradition during the evening aarti involves Radha, the resident elephant. For over 10 years, Radha has participated in the ritual, ringing the temple bell with her trunk and bowing down to the deity, a sight that has become world-famous.

Yamuna Aarti

Just a short distance away, at the Ramanreti Ghat (beside Brahmaand Ghat), a grand Yamuna Aarti is performed daily.

Etymology

The name "Ramanreti" is derived from two Hindi words: 'Raman' (रमन), meaning "divine play" or "enjoyment," and 'Reti' (रेती), meaning "sand." Collectively, it signifies "the sands of divine play," referring to the belief that this was the playground of Lord Krishna in the Dvapara Yuga.

History and Significance

The historical and spiritual significance of Ramanreti is deeply rooted in Vaishnava traditions. It is believed that Lord Krishna, along with his cowherd friends (gopas), would frequent this sandy grove to play, graze cows, and perform his childhood leelas (divine acts).

The site gained modern prominence due to the penance of the saint Swami Gyandas Ji Maharaj. According to local history, Swami Gyandas performed severe austerities at this spot for 12 years. Pleased by his devotion, Lord Krishna appeared before him. The exact spot of this divine vision is marked by the Raman Bihari Ji Temple within the ashram premises.

Unlike other temples in the Braj circuit that emphasize idols made of stone or metal, the primary object of reverence here is the sand itself. Devotees believe the sand still holds the divine footprints of Krishna; thus, rolling in the dust of Ramanreti is considered a purifying act that bestows humility and spiritual merit.
