How many days do you need?

The first decision is how long to give it. One day can cover the essentials of two towns at a rush. Two days is the comfortable sweet spot, Vrindavan on the first, Mathura and Gokul on the second. When to visit

The best time is the cool season, October to March, when the weather is kind for temples and walking. Kartik in autumn is the most devotional season. The route and order

The three towns lie close together along the Yamuna: Mathura in the middle, Vrindavan about 12 to 15 kilometres north and Gokul a similar distance south east. The best order is Vrindavan’s temples first, then Mathura’s birthplace, then Gokul’s childhood sites, grouping each town into its own part of the trip so you are not crossing back and forth.
