📌 QUICK ANSWER
For Mathura Vrindavan in one day, start at dawn with Banke Bihari, then Radha Raman and ISKCON in Vrindavan. Cross to Mathura by midday for Krishna Janmabhoomi, Dwarkadhish and Vishram Ghat. Return to Vrindavan for Prem Mandir after dark and the evening aarti at Kesi Ghat. Start early, take a car, and confirm every timing on the day.
Key takeaways
Start at dawn, with Banke Bihari first, to beat the crush.
Morning in Vrindavan, midday in Mathura, evening back in Vrindavan.
You can catch only one evening aarti: Kesi Ghat in Vrindavan, or Vishram Ghat in Mathura.
One day can't fit Govardhan or Barsana, so save those for a second day.
A car saves the day, and every timing should be confirmed locally.
A single day in Braj is all about sequence: Banke Bihari first, the heat and crowds planned around, and one evening aarti chosen well. Get those three right and a day is enough for a real darshan. I'm Gurudutt, born in Gokul, and here is the exact one-day plan I give pilgrims who are short on time. Want it driven and timed for you? Early morning: Banke Bihari first
Begin at Banke Bihari at opening, before the lanes fill. He's the most beloved and most thronged deity in Vrindavan, so the early hour is the whole trick to a calm darshan. Go light, leave nothing loose in your hands for the monkeys, and remember photography is forbidden inside.
Mid morning: the Vrindavan temples
With Banke Bihari done, walk the nearby Sapt Devalaya. Radha Raman, whose original deity was never hidden, is the one not to miss. If time allows, add Govind Dev for its grand 1590 architecture or Radha Vallabh. Then ISKCON Krishna Balaram Mandir for its kirtan and Prabhupada's samadhi. This cluster sits close together, so it moves quickly.
Midday: cross to Mathura
Drive the short 12 to 15 km to Mathura, about 20 to 30 minutes. See Krishna Janmabhoomi, the prison cell birthplace, remembering that phones and bags are banned inside, so leave them in the car. Then Dwarkadhish, timing your arrival to a jhanki window so the curtain is open. Break for lunch around here, the classic kachori-jalebi or a satvik thali, and a lassi in a clay kulhad. If anyone in your group is curious about history, the Government Museum is close, though it needs its own unhurried hour and is easy to skip on a tight day.
Evening: back to Vrindavan
As the afternoon eases, drive back toward Vrindavan for Prem Mandir, timed for dusk when the marble lights up. Then make your one big evening choice. You can attend only one evening aarti, so pick Kesi Ghat in Vrindavan, the loveliest in Braj, with the painted havelis behind the river, or end the day in Mathura with the grand Vishram Ghat Yamuna aarti instead. Both are wonderful; you simply can't do both in a day.

What to leave for a second day
One honest truth: a single day cannot include Govardhan, with its roughly 21 km parikrama, or Barsana, about 45 km out, or a deep Gokul. Those belong to a second and third day. Trying to force them in just ruins the day you have. If you can stretch to two days, the two-day route adds Govardhan beautifully. Coming from out of town? See Delhi to Mathura Vrindavan.
