I am Gurudutt, born in Gokul in the Mathura district, guiding pilgrims through Braj since 2018, more than 50,000 of them. Gurgaon and the wider NCR are practically on Braj's doorstep and I welcome many working families who drive down for a single day of darshan and a break from the city. It is a short, simple road that asks little more than an early start. Gurgaon to Vrindavan distance and driving routes
By road, the distance is around 133 to 157 km and the drive takes about 2 to 2.5 hours depending on the route and the traffic. NH 44 is the direct spine of this journey; the peripheral expressway is the alternative when the highway or Delhi's fringe is congested. There are three main ways.
Route | Distance | Driving time |
Via NH 44 | 133 km | About 2 hr 17 min |
Via Western Peripheral Expy and NH 44 | 150 km | About 2 hr 35 min |
Via NH 148NA and NH 44 | 157 km | About 2 hr 40 min |
Gurgaon to Vrindavan road routes. Approximate; distances and times vary with traffic and roadworks.
The straight NH 44 route is shortest and quickest in normal conditions, while the Western Peripheral Expressway route is a little longer but can be smoother when the Delhi fringe is busy. On the day, live traffic decides the winner and a car that knows the road picks the smoothest line; our Mathura Vrindavan taxi service can carry you the whole way or meet you for the last leg.
Vrindavan to Gurgaon distance (the return journey)
The road back is much the same, around 136 to 152 km, about 2.5 to 3 hours. If you are planning the reverse leg, from Braj back to Gurgaon, these are the main routes.
Route | Distance | Driving time |
Via NH 44 | 136 km | About 2 hr 27 min |
Via NH 44 and Western Peripheral Expy | 152 km | About 2 hr 55 min |
Vrindavan to Gurgaon road routes. Approximate; the direct NH 44 route is shortest, the peripheral route a little longer but often calmer.
Gurgaon to Vrindavan by train
The train is a comfortable way to cover the distance and it spares you the drive through Delhi's edge. There is no railway station in Vrindavan large enough for most trains, so you travel to Mathura Junction, the main railhead for Braj and take a short drive on. From Mathura Junction, Vrindavan is only about 14 km, around 30 minutes by road and we can meet your train.
A few things worth knowing about the train:
Where to board: Gurgaon has limited direct trains, so many travellers board from Delhi's stations, which have frequent services to Mathura Junction.
How long it takes: roughly 2 to 4 hours from Delhi depending on the service; the fast trains are quickest.
Book ahead: reserve your ticket to Mathura Junction in advance, especially in festival season, when seats go quickly.
The last leg: from Mathura Junction we carry you to Vrindavan and around the temples in the right order.
Gurgaon to Vrindavan by air
For a journey this short, flying makes no sense at all. Gurgaon sits right beside Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, but Vrindavan and Mathura have no airport of their own and the whole road trip is only about two hours. A car or train beats any flight many times over on this route.
Nearest major airport: Delhi (Indira Gandhi International), right next to Gurgaon, about 150 km from Braj.
Delhi to Mathura/Vrindavan: about 3 to 3.5 hours by road on the Yamuna Expressway.
Coming soon: the Noida International Airport at Jewar will be much closer to Braj once fully operational.
Our honest view: from Gurgaon, simply drive or take a train from Delhi; there is no case for flying.
Gurgaon to Vrindavan by bus
Buses are the budget option. State and private buses run from Gurgaon and the NCR toward Mathura, from where a short local ride brings you to Vrindavan; the whole journey takes around 3 to 5 hours. It is cheaper than a car but a little longer and less comfortable and best suited to those travelling light and on a tight budget.
Which is the best way to travel?
The right choice depends on your time, budget and comfort. In short: a private car is the most flexible and the fastest on this short route, taking you door to door; a train via Delhi to Mathura is a comfortable, good-value alternative; flying is out of the question; and the bus is the cheapest but the slowest. The table sets them side by side.
Mode | Time | Comfort | Best for |
Private car | 2 to 2.5 hr | High, door to door | Families, elders, day-trippers; fastest here |
Train (via Delhi) | 2 to 4 hr | Good, restful | Solo and budget travellers, good value |
Flight | Not applicable | No benefit here | Not a sensible option on this route |
Bus | 3 to 5 hr | Basic, tiring | Tight budgets, travelling light |
A quick comparison. On this short route a private car is both the fastest and the most comfortable; the train via Delhi is the value pick.
Breaking the journey: Lucknow and Agra
The drive is so short that it needs no real break, but NH 44 has clean roadside dhabas and rest stops if you would like a chai or a stretch. The one thing worth planning is simply the exit from the NCR: leaving Gurgaon before the morning rush or taking the Western Peripheral Expressway around the congestion, keeps the whole journey smooth and quick from the first mile to Braj.
What to see when you arrive
Once in Vrindavan, the darshans begin. The most beloved is the Banke Bihari temple, best seen early in the cool morning and the grand Prem Mandir with its evening light show. Add ISKCON Vrindavan for its continuous kirtan and in nearby Mathura the Krishna Janmabhoomi, the very birthplace of the Lord. Because the drive is so quick, you can leave Gurgaon at dawn and be at darshan by mid-morning.
Best time to make the trip
The cool months of October to March are much the best for the journey and for Braj itself, pleasant on the road and at the temples, while the summer of April to June is very hot. If you travel in the festival season, around Janmashtami, Radhashtami, Diwali or Holi, expect the town to be joyful but crowded and book ahead. Tips for the journey
Leave Gurgaon before the morning rush to clear the NCR quickly.
If the Delhi fringe is heavy, take the Western Peripheral Expressway around it.
The straight NH 44 route is fastest in normal traffic; keep an eye on live conditions.
For the train, board from Delhi to Mathura Junction and book ahead in festival season.
Being so close, an early start lets you comfortably do darshan and return the same day.
The honest bit
Honest words on the Gurgaon to Vrindavan journey, from one born in Braj. This is about the easiest run into Braj there is, a couple of hours down NH 44, well within a single day's outing from the millennium city. The distances and times here are approximate and shift with traffic and on this route the only real variable is getting clear of the NCR cleanly. For the last leg and once you are here, a car that knows the town saves you time and touts; if you would rather stay the night and take it slowly, see our Mathura Vrindavan hotels. Plan the early start well and the darshan at the end is worth every mile.
Why Experience My India is the right choice
I was born in Gokul in the Mathura district and I welcome travellers from Gurgaon and the whole NCR every week. Tip from Gurudutt: being so close, Vrindavan is the perfect one-day reset from the Gurgaon rush. Leave by six or seven, take darshan of Banke Bihari before the midday closing, have your prasad and a quiet walk by the Yamuna, watch Prem Mandir light up in the evening and drive home the same night. A whole pilgrimage in a single unhurried day and back before Monday.
