📌 QUICK ANSWER
A trip to Vrindavan is best given at least one full day, beginning early at the beloved Banke Bihari temple before the crowds, moving through the old Goswami temples and Nidhivan and keeping Prem Mandir and the Yamuna aarti for the evening. Two days let you go at ease and add Mathura, Govardhan or the wider Braj. Most temples close for a few hours at midday, so an early start and an evening return work best and a car with a guide, dropping you at the edge of the old-town lanes, makes the day smooth. Our packages start from Rs 1,999 per person, with one clear car fare. To plan your Vrindavan itinerary, call or WhatsApp +91 7302265809.

I am Gurudutt, born in Gokul in the Mathura district, guiding pilgrims through Braj since 2018, more than 50,000 of them. Vrindavan is a town of a thousand temples and it is easy for a first-time visitor to feel lost among them, unsure what to see, in what order and when. A good itinerary makes all the difference, letting you take the finest darshans calmly and in the right rhythm of the day, rather than rushing and missing the best of them. Here is everything you need to plan your trip, told by someone from this soil: how many days you need, a ready one-day and two-day plan, the must-see temples, how to get around, the timings to plan around and the best time to come. How many days do you need in Vrindavan
How long you need depends on how much you wish to see and how gently you like to travel. There are a few good ways to plan it:
Half a day: Banke Bihari, Prem Mandir and ISKCON make a satisfying short visit if time is very short.
One full day: the main temples and the evening aarti, the most common plan, covered by our same-day Mathura and Vrindavan tour.
Two days: Vrindavan at ease on day one and Mathura or the Govardhan parikrama on day two.
Three days or more: add Gokul, Nandgaon and Barsana for the whole of Braj, as in our two-day Braj tour extended by a day. Our guide on how to plan a Mathura and Vrindavan trip helps you choose.
A perfect one-day Vrindavan itinerary
The plan below is the one I most often arrange for a full and unhurried day, working around the midday temple closures. Start early; it makes all the difference.
Time | Plan |
Early morning | Banke Bihari darshan before the crowds, then the nearby Goswami temples |
Late morning | Nidhivan and Seva Kunj, then the ISKCON Krishna Balaram temple |
Midday | Most temples close for a few hours; a relaxed lunch and rest |
Afternoon | The grand Rangji temple and a Yamuna boat ride, at your pace |
Evening | Prem Mandir and its light show, then the Yamuna aarti at Kesi Ghat |
A suggested one-day Vrindavan itinerary. Fully customisable; reconfirm temple timings.
The heart of the morning is Banke Bihari, best reached early, followed by the intimate old Goswami temples such as Radha Raman and the mystical grove of Nidhivan and Seva Kunj, before the lively ISKCON temple later in the morning.
A relaxed two-day Vrindavan itinerary
Within two days you can take Vrindavan gently and add the neighbouring holy places. This is the plan I most recommend for a first full visit.
Day | Plan |
Day 1 | Vrindavan: Banke Bihari, the Goswami temples, Nidhivan, ISKCON, then Prem Mandir and the Kesi Ghat aarti |
Day 2 | Mathura (Krishna Janmabhoomi and Dwarkadhish) or the Govardhan parikrama and the wider Braj |
A suggested two-day plan. It can start from Delhi, Agra or Mathura.
The must-see temples and sites
Whatever plan you choose, these are the darshans no Vrindavan itinerary should miss. Banke Bihari and the Prem Mandir light show lead the list, along with ISKCON, Nidhivan and the Goswami temples. The grand south-Indian style Rangji temple, the ancient Govind Dev Ji temple and the evening Yamuna aarti at Kesi Ghat complete a rich visit; add more of the old town if you have the time.
Extending your trip: Mathura, Govardhan, Gokul and Barsana
Vrindavan sits at the heart of Braj and it is easy and rewarding to add the places around it. Mathura, the birthplace of Krishna, is only half an hour away and makes a natural second half-day or day. Govardhan, with its great parikrama, is about an hour off and deserves a day of its own. Gokul, where the infant Krishna was raised and Nandgaon and Barsana, the villages of Krishna and Radha, fill out a two or three-day Braj trip. To plan the arrival leg, see our Mathura Junction to Vrindavan distance guide.
Getting around Vrindavan
Vrindavan's old town is a maze of narrow lanes where cars cannot go, so the best way to travel is a car that carries you between the areas and waits, dropping you at the edge for a short walk into the lanes. Within the old town, e-rickshaws and cycle-rickshaws run everywhere and much is walkable; agree to any fare before you sit. A car with a Braj-born driver and guide saves you the most time and effort and lets you fit in more darshans in a day. For where to base yourself, see our guide on where to stay in Vrindavan.
Temple timings to plan around
The single most important thing to know is that most Vrindavan temples close for a few hours in the middle of the day and reopen in the late afternoon, so a good itinerary has a morning round and an evening round with a rest between. Banke Bihari is best in the early morning, before the great crowds; ISKCON opens very early for its dawn aarti; Nidhivan closes at midday and again at night; and the Prem Mandir light show and the Kesi Ghat aarti belong to the evening. Exact hours shift with the season and on festival days, so always reconfirm on the day.
Best time to visit
The cool months of October to March are much the best for Vrindavan, pleasant for walking through the lanes, while April to June is very hot. Weekdays are calmer than weekends and the great festivals, Janmashtami, Radhashtami, Holi and the holy month of Kartik, are the most joyous but also the most crowded times. Our best time to visit Mathura and Vrindavan guide has the seasons and festivals in full.
What it costs
Our Vrindavan itineraries are built around your group and your days and our packages start from Rs 1,999 per person, always for one clear car fare agreed in advance. A typical tour includes the car, driver and fuel for the whole plan, waiting between sites, with pick-up from Delhi, Agra, Mathura or the station and an optional Braj-born guide, which we warmly recommend. Temple darshan is free. For a night in town, see our Mathura Vrindavan hotels.
Tips for your Vrindavan itinerary
Start early, above all for Banke Bihari and plan around the midday temple closures.
Carry little into Banke Bihari; rules on phones and bags can be strict and changed.
Keep Prem Mandir and the Kesi Ghat aarti for the evening.
Wear modest clothing and easy footwear for the lanes.
Use a car that waits and agree to any e-rickshaw fare in advance.
The honest bit
Honest words on planning Vrindavan, from one born in Braj. Do not try to cram every temple into one day; the town has hundreds and a calm few done well beat a rushed many. Build your day around the midday closure and go early, for Banke Bihari especially fills up fast. Darshan is free and there is no official VIP pass, so keep your money in your pocket and beware anyone selling one or any tout offering a quick darshan. The old-town lanes are crowded and can be slippery, so wear good footwear and mind the elderly and children. A trusted car and guide and fares agreed in advance, spare you the common troubles. Plan gently and Vrindavan will give you its sweetness.
Why Experience My India is the right choice
I was born in Gokul in the Mathura district and the temples and lanes of Vrindavan are my own home ground. Guiding since 2018, more than 50,000 pilgrims, 4.5 stars across 204 Google reviews, WhatsApp first, 8 AM to 9 PM daily. What we bring to a Vrindavan itinerary is a plan shaped around your days and built around the real timings, the car that drops you at the right lanes and waits, the darshans in the right order to avoid the crowds, the stories told on the ground and honest guidance without touts. One clear fare and never a charge for free darshan.
Tip from Gurudutt: the secret to Vrindavan is the rhythm of the day. Be at Banke Bihari soon after it opens, while it is still calm, then wander the old Goswami temples and Nidhivan while the morning is fresh. Rest through the midday closure and come alive again in the evening for Prem Mandir's light show and the lamps floating on the Yamuna at Kesi Ghat. Planned this way, even a single day feels full and unhurried and you carry home the real peace of the town, not the rush of it. It is how I love to show Vrindavan.
