📌 QUICK ANSWER
The distance from Gokul to Raman Reti is only about 2.2 km, a journey of just 10 to 15 minutes via Raman Reti Road. Both lie together in the Gokul-Mahavan area, on the far side of the Yamuna about 15 km from Mathura, so they are easily seen together in a single peaceful visit, along with the ancient Mahavan sites nearby. Gokul is the home of Krishna's infancy and Raman Reti the sacred playground of his childhood, with a lovely ashram and gentle deer. You can travel between them on foot, by e-rickshaw or by car.
Barely two km separate two of the tenderest places in all of Braj: Gokul, where the baby Krishna was raised in secret by Nanda and Yashoda and Raman Reti, the soft silver sand where he and his brother Balaram rolled and played as little boys. I was born in Gokul myself and this short road between them is, to me, the sweetest little journey in the world.

About Gokul
Gokul, on the eastern bank of the Yamuna about 15 km from Mathura, is where the story of Krishna's childhood begins. It was here that Vasudeva carried the newborn Krishna across the flooded Yamuna on the night of his birth, to be raised in safety by Nanda and Yashoda, far from the cruel Kansa. The town is dear to the Vallabh sampradaya, with the Gokulnath temple and other shrines and its Yamuna ghats are quiet and holy. To walk in Gokul is to walk where the baby Krishna took his first steps and played his first leelas.
About Raman Reti
Just up the road lies Raman Reti, whose name says exactly what it is: raman means to play or roam and reti means sand, so this is the sand where the Lord played. Here, on this soft, fine, silvery sand, the tradition says the little Krishna and Balaram crawled, rolled and played with their cowherd friends and to this day devotees lie down and roll upon the sacred sand in loving remembrance, taking a little of it home as a blessing. The peaceful Raman Reti ashram, with its temple, is home to a herd of gentle deer that roam freely among the pilgrims and the whole place has a deep, restful calm. It is one of the sweetest and most soothing spots in all of Braj.
Combine Gokul, Raman Reti and Mahavan
Because everything here is so close, it is easy and rewarding to see the whole Gokul-Mahavan cluster in one unhurried visit. Beside Raman Reti, in the ancient forest of Mahavan, stands the Chaurasi Khamba, the eighty-four-pillared hall held to be the ancient palace of Nanda and on the Yamuna is Brahmand Ghat, where Yashoda is said to have seen the whole universe in the mouth of her child. A little further lies Dauji at Baldeo, the great temple of Krishna's brother Balaram. Together these make a gentle, deeply moving half-day of Krishna's infancy and childhood.
How to reach Gokul and Raman Reti
The Gokul-Mahavan area lies across the Yamuna about 15 km southeast of Mathura, around 30 minutes by road and about 22 km from Vrindavan, around 45 minutes. A private car is the easiest way, taking you to Gokul and Raman Reti and around the Mahavan sites; autos and e-rickshaws also run locally. Once there, the sites are so close that you can move between them on foot or by a short e-rickshaw ride. Timings and best time to visit

The honest bit
Honest words on Gokul and Raman Reti, from one born in Gokul myself. This is a quiet, gentle corner of Braj, not a place of grand temples or big crowds most days and that is exactly its blessing; come for its peace and its sweetness, not for spectacle. The distance between the two is tiny, so do not overthink the travel; a short ride or walk is all it takes. Darshan is free and there is no VIP pass. It lies off the main Mathura-Vrindavan circuit, across the river, so a car that waits saves you time; for a stay, most base in Mathura or Vrindavan, so see our Mathura Vrindavan hotels. Come with a quiet heart and this is where Krishna's childhood feels closest.
Why Experience My India is the right choice
I was born in Gokul in the Mathura district, so this is quite literally my home ground and few know it better. Guiding since 2018, more than 50,000 pilgrims, 4.5 stars across 204 Google reviews, WhatsApp first, 8 AM to 9 PM daily. What a local brings to a Gokul and Raman Reti visit is the car that knows the far-bank roads, the sites in the right order with Mahavan, the leelas of Krishna's infancy told on the very ground they happened and honest guidance without touts. One clear fare and never a charge for free darshan.
Tip from Gurudutt: give the Gokul-Mahavan side a slow half-day rather than a rushed stop. Take darshan in Gokul, then drive the two short km to Raman Reti and simply sit a while on the soft sand where the child Krishna played, watching the deer wander by; it is one of the most peaceful feelings in all of Braj. Add the Chaurasi Khamba and Brahmand Ghat while you are there. This is where the Lord was a baby and it is felt best gently and unhurried.
