Jewar Airport to Mathura by train and road

From Jewar Airport, the road via the Yamuna Expressway is the direct way to Braj. There is no direct rail link from the airport itself; the nearest railhead for Braj is Mathura Junction (14 km from Vrindavan), which is well connected by train from across India. So most travellers will fly into Jewar and drive the short 1.5 hours to Braj or arrive by train at Mathura Junction.

Built on the Yamuna Expressway, it is set to be the nearest major airport to Mathura and Vrindavan, at about 92 to 95 km, far closer than Delhi's airport (about 150 km) which pilgrims have long used. As it opens and adds flights, it will make flying to Krishna's land far easier, with a short, smooth expressway drive at the end. For now, check which flights serve Jewar, as the airport is new and its network is growing.

Jewar Airport to Mathura by bus and taxi

From Jewar Airport, a taxi or a pre-arranged car is the easiest way to Braj, taking about 1.5 hours up the Yamuna Expressway. Bus links from the new airport are developing; for a smooth, direct transfer with your luggage after a flight, a car is far the most comfortable, especially with family or elders.

The best way to travel

For the airport transfer, the choice is simple. A pre-arranged private car is by far the easiest and most comfortable, meeting you at the airport and taking you straight to your Braj darshan or hotel; an airport taxi is the on-the-spot option; and bus links are still developing. Breaking the journey and what to see on the way

The drive from Jewar to Braj is short and smooth, straight down the Yamuna Expressway, the same fine road that links Braj to Delhi and Agra. So a pilgrim can fly into Jewar and be at the darshan of Krishna within a couple of hours. The airport also sits near Greater Noida and the wider NCR, so it serves the whole region; but for Braj, its great gift is proximity, bringing Mathura and Vrindavan within easy reach of a flight for the first time.

What to see when you arrive

Once you reach Braj from the airport, the darshans begin. In Mathura, see the Krishna Janmabhoomi, Krishna's birthplace and the grand Dwarkadhish temple, with the Yamuna aarti at Vishram Ghat. Just 14 km in Vrindavan lie the beloved Banke Bihari, the marble Prem Mandir and the kirtan of ISKCON. For a comfortable stay after your flight, see our Mathura Vrindavan hotels.

The best time to visit

The cool months of October to March are much the best for the journey and for Braj, pleasant on the road and at the temples, while the summer is hot. The Yamuna Expressway can have dense fog on winter mornings (December-January), which slows the drive, so allow extra time for airport transfers then. See our best time to visit Mathura Vrindavan guide and the Mathura Vrindavan festivals calendar to plan your visit.

Tips for the journey

  • Take the Yamuna Expressway; all routes use it and it is the fastest way.

  • Arrange your car pickup before you land, so you are met and driven straight to Braj.

  • Allow extra time for winter-morning fog on the expressway (December-January).

  • Check which flights serve Jewar, as the airport is new and its network is growing.

  • From the airport, Mathura is about 1.5 hours and Vrindavan just 14 km further.

  • Come October to March for the most pleasant weather.

The honest bit

Honest words on the Mathura to Jewar Airport journey, from one born in Braj. This is genuinely good news: the new Jewar airport brings a major airport within about 95 km of Mathura, an easy 1.5-hour drive up the Yamuna Expressway, far closer than Delhi. For pilgrims flying to Braj, it is a real boon. But a fair note: Jewar is a new airport, so its flight network is still growing and you should check current flights before planning around it; for now, Delhi remains the bigger hub. Beware the winter-morning fog on the expressway, which can delay transfers. And arrange your pickup in advance, so you are met and driven straight to the darshan. As Jewar grows, it will transform travel to Krishna's land.

Why Experience My India is the right choice

I was born in Gokul in the Mathura district and we already use the Yamuna Expressway daily for Delhi and Agra transfers, so meeting pilgrims at Jewar is second nature. Guiding since 2018, more than 50,000 pilgrims, 4.5 stars on Google, WhatsApp first, 8 AM to 9 PM daily. We track your flight, meet you at the airport with a name-board, drive you the smooth 1.5 hours to your Braj hotel or straight to the darshan, look after families and elders and luggage and plan your whole Braj visit, with one clear fare and no touts. Never charge for free darshan.

Tip from Gurudutt: the new Jewar airport changes everything for a Braj pilgrimage; you can now land and be before Krishna within a couple of hours. Arrange your pickup before you fly, so that when you land, weary from your journey, you are met at the door, your bags carried and driven smoothly up the Yamuna Expressway to Vrindavan, arriving fresh for the darshan. To step off a plane at Jewar and, a short drive later, stand before Banke Bihari, is a blessing the pilgrims of old could never have imagined. Let us make that transfer seamless for you.

Yashoda Kund, Nandgaon: Mother Yashoda's Sacred Pond, Its Legends and How to Reach

Yashoda Kund is a sacred historic pond in Nandgaon, just south of Nand Bhavan (Nanda Bhavan), associated with Krishna's childhood. Mother Yashoda came here each morning to bathe, often bringing baby Krishna and Balarama to play in the water. On its bank stands a Narsimhadev temple where she prayed for Krishna's safety and on the western side lie the ancient Hau-Bilau (hobgoblin) statues she is said to have used to playfully coax the children. The kund is a place of Vatsalya Bhakti (parental devotion) and devotees chant a traditional prayer here for prosperity, peace and Vaikuntha. Kansa Vadh and Rangbhoomi, Mathura: The Arena Where Krishna Slew the Tyrant, Its Story and How to Reach

Rangbhoomi, also called the Kansa Vadh Sthal or Kans Tila, is the open-air site in Mathura revered as the ancient wrestling arena where Lord Krishna killed his tyrant uncle, King Kansa. It stands opposite the Main Post Office, near the Rangeshwar Mahadev temple, close to the Krishna Janmabhoomi complex and Vishram Ghat. By the Srimad Bhagavatam, Kansa lured Krishna and Balarama to a wrestling festival as a trap; Krishna killed the elephant Kuvalayapida and the wrestler Chanura, Balarama killed Mushtika and Krishna then dragged Kansa from his throne and slew him, fulfilling the prophecy of his birth. Each year a great Kansa Vadh Mela is held here. To visit Rangbhoomi and the Kansa Vadh sites with a local guide, call or WhatsApp +91 7302265809.

Yogmaya Mandir, Gokul (Mathura): The Goddess Who Saved Krishna, Timings, Legend and How to Reach

Yogmaya Mandir is a temple to Goddess Yogmaya in Gokul, about 10 km from Mathura, revered as Yogmaya Janam Sthan. It is open 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with morning and evening aarti and entry is free. By the Bhagavata Purana, Yogmaya was born to Yashoda in Gokul on the very night Krishna was born in Kansa's prison in Mathura; Vasudeva carried the baby Krishna across the Yamuna and exchanged him for this infant girl, who then slipped from Kansa's grasp, rose into the sky in an eight-armed form and warned him that his slayer was already safe.
