I am Gurudutt, born in Gokul in the Mathura district, guiding pilgrims through Braj since 2018: more than 50,000 of them. Many devotees come to Vrindavan from Udaipur, the beautiful lake city of Rajasthan and it is a long journey of some six hundred and sixty kilometres or more across the west of the country. Because it is so long, it is worth planning well, choosing between the road, the train and the air. Here is everything you need: the distance, the routes, the time and the best way to travel from Udaipur to Vrindavan, told by someone from this land. Arrange your transfer with our Mathura Vrindavan taxi service. Or Book our Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package, message on WhatsApp at +91 7302265809, any day from 8 AM to 9 PM.

The best way to travel from Udaipur to Vrindavan

Because the journey is so long, more than six hundred and fifty kilometres, it is worth thinking carefully about the best way to travel and there are three main choices, each with its merits. The train is the classic way for such a long pilgrimage, restful and cheap, with services from Udaipur towards Mathura and the region, letting you sleep through the night and arrive fresh. The air is the fastest way, flying from Udaipur to Delhi, about an hour and then driving the last hundred and eighty kilometres to Vrindavan or flying to Agra when flights suit and driving the shorter stretch from there. And the road, the long drive of about eleven hours, suits those who wish to travel at their own pace, perhaps breaking the journey or to see something on the way. For most, the train or a flight to Delhi with a car onward is the easiest and least tiring; the choice is yours. The table sets out the ways.

Ways from Udaipur to Vrindavan. A train or a flight to Delhi is usually easiest.

Way

What to expect

Train

Restful and cheap; services towards Mathura; sleep overnight

Air

Fastest; fly to Delhi (about 1 hr), then car about 180 km

Road

A long drive of about 11 hours; travel at your own pace

Going by train

For such a long journey, the train is the classic and often the best way, restful and economical and much loved by pilgrims. Trains run from the Udaipur City railway station towards Mathura and the wider region and the great junction of Mathura, well connected across the country, is the natural railhead for Vrindavan, only some fifteen kilometres away. An overnight train lets you sleep through the long miles and arrive rested in the morning, ready for the darshan, which is a great blessing on a pilgrimage. From Mathura or from a nearer railhead, a short car ride brings you to Vrindavan. Book your train well ahead, especially in the festival seasons, when they fill quickly and arrange a car to meet you at the station. Our Mathura Vrindavan taxi service can meet your train and bring you to Vrindavan.

Going by air

The fastest way, for those who value their time, is to fly. There are flights from the Maharana Pratap airport at Udaipur to Delhi, only about an hour and a quarter in the air and from Delhi it is a drive of about a hundred and eighty kilometres, some three and a half to four hours, to Vrindavan by the Yamuna Expressway. When flights and times suit, one may also fly towards Agra, which is closer to Braj and drive the shorter stretch from there. Flying turns the long journey of a day or a night into a few hours, which suits those with little time, though it costs more than the train. From the airport, a car brings you the rest of the way. Our Delhi to Vrindavan distance guide has the last stretch from Delhi in full.

Going by road

For those who wish to travel by road, whether for the freedom of it, to break the journey or to travel as a family or a group with their own vehicle, the drive from Udaipur to Vrindavan is about six hundred and sixty to six hundred and eighty kilometres and takes about eleven hours by the fastest route, across the length of Rajasthan and into the land of Braj. It is a long day at the wheel, so it is wise either to break it with a night on the way, perhaps at Ajmer or Jaipur, both holy and historic cities on or near the route or to share the driving or to take a good car with a driver so that you may rest. The roads are largely good, by the national highways and the expressway. If you drive, start very early, plan your stops and do not try to do it all in one tiring push. A hired car with a driver is far more restful than driving yourself. Our Jaipur to Mathura distance guide covers a stretch of the way, if you break the journey there.

Breaking the journey: Ajmer and Jaipur

One of the joys of the long road from Udaipur is that it passes through or near some of the great cities of Rajasthan and the journey may be broken to see them, turning a long haul into a richer trip. Ajmer, with its famous Dargah and, nearby, the holy Pushkar with its lake and Brahma temple, lies on or near the way; and Jaipur, the rose pink capital of Rajasthan, with its forts and palaces, is close to the route as it nears Braj. Many pilgrims travelling from Udaipur to Vrindavan give a day to Jaipur or to Pushkar on the way, making a pilgrimage of the whole. If you are travelling by road and have the time, it is well worth considering. Our three day Mathura Vrindavan pilgrimage tour covers Braj itself, the goal of your journey.

When to travel

The cool months of October to March are much the best for the journey and for a visit to Vrindavan, pleasant for the long travel and for the temples and ghats. The great festivals of Krishna, Janmashtami in the late monsoon and Holi in the spring, fill Vrindavan with joy and with vast crowds, so if you travel then, book your train or flight well ahead and expect the roads and the town to be very busy. The peak summer of May and June is punishingly hot for so long a journey across Rajasthan, so the cool season is far kinder. Our best time to visit Mathura Vrindavan guide is the seasons.

The honest bit

Honest words on the Udaipur to Vrindavan journey, from one born in Braj. This is a long journey, more than six hundred and fifty kilometres, so be realistic: for most people the train or a flight to Delhi with a car onward is far easier and less tiring than the long eleven hour drive and I would not advise driving it all in a single day without a break or a driver. If you do drive, break the journey or share the wheel or take a car with a driver and start very early. Book trains and flights well ahead, above all in the festival seasons. In Braj itself, remember that darshan everywhere is free and no official VIP pass exists at Banke Bihari or anywhere in the land, whatever a tout may promise. Plan the long journey sensibly by whichever way suits you, arrange a car for the last stretch and for Braj itself and you will arrive rested and ready for the darshan of the holy land of Krishna.

Why Experience My India is the right choice

I was born in Gokul Mahaban Bangar, in the Mathura district and Braj, the goal of your long journey, is my own home ground. Guiding since 2018, more than 50,000 pilgrims, 4.5 stars across 204 Google reviews, WhatsApp first, 8 AM to 9 PM daily. What a local brings to a journey from far Udaipur is a car ready to meet your train or your flight at Mathura, Delhi or Agra and bring you smoothly to Vrindavan, honest advice on the best way to travel the long distance, the breaking of the road journey at Jaipur or Pushkar if you drive and then the whole of Vrindavan and Braj planned and guided in the right order. One clear fare and never a charge for free darshan.

Tip from Gurudutt: for so long a journey from Udaipur, do not exhaust yourself with the eleven hour drive if you can help it. Take an overnight train or fly to Delhi and let us meet you and carry you the last easy stretch to Vrindavan, so that you arrive rested and ready in body and heart for the darshan. A pilgrimage should not begin in exhaustion. And if you do wish to drive, make a richer trip by breaking the journey at Pushkar or Jaipur, holy and beautiful cities on the way, rather than grinding through in one tiring push. Plan the journey with care and it will be a joy from the first mile to the darshan of Banke Bihari.

Garud Govind Mandir, Vrindavan: Krishna on Garuda and the Braj Remedy for Kaal Sarp Dosh

The Garud Govind Mandir stands at Chhatikara, on the Mathura to Vrindavan road, about 7 km from the heart of Vrindavan, and enshrines a rare form of Krishna as Govind seated upon Garuda, his great eagle mount. It is the one temple in Braj where pilgrims come for relief from Kaal Sarp Dosh and Sarp Dosh, for Garuda is the king of birds and the natural subduer of serpents. In summer, darshan runs about 4:30 AM to 3:30 PM and 4:30 PM to 10:00 PM; in winter, about 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Darshan is free.
