Radha Rani Temple (Shriji, Ladli Ji)

The hilltop Shriji or Ladli Ji temple is the rare Braj shrine where Radha is the primary deity and Krishna is worshipped beside her as Ladli Lal. It crowns Bhanugarh hill in Barsana, Radha's own town, a red and white sandstone temple in the Mughal-era style.

The climb: steps, ropeway, palki and lift

The sanctum is about 200 to 225 steps up the hill. A ropeway, a palki and a lift are available, and a car can take you most of the way up. We plan the ascent for the cool morning or the evening slot.

How to reach Barsana on your tour

Barsana is about 45 km from Mathura and about 50 km from Vrindavan, roughly an hour by road, with Govardhan about 20 km away and Nandgaon 8 to 10 km. From Delhi or Noida it is roughly a three-hour drive via the Yamuna Expressway. Because the last stretch and the hill need a proper vehicle, we cover it all by private car.
