📌 QUICK ANSWER

The distance from Nagpur to Vrindavan is about 900 to 972 km, roughly 17 hours by road. The fastest route runs straight up NH 44 through Sagar, Gwalior and Agra, about 901 km in around 17 hours 18 minutes. This is a very long journey, so most travellers prefer to fly to Delhi, about 1.5 hours, then drive 3 to 3.5 hours to Braj, or take an overnight train, as Nagpur is India's central rail junction. Nagpur, the orange city at the very heart of India, and Vrindavan, the temple town of Krishna, lie a long way apart, some 900 km up NH 44 through the centre of the country. Yet Nagpur's many devotees of Krishna make the journey to his land, and there are comfortable ways to do it. Here, from one born in Braj, is the complete guide to the Nagpur to Vrindavan distance, the routes both ways, and the best way to travel. Plan your visit with our Mathura Vrindavan tour packages.

Key takeaways

  • Nagpur to Vrindavan is about 900 to 972 km, roughly 17 hours by road.

  • The fastest route runs straight up NH 44 through Sagar, Gwalior and Agra, about 901 km.

  • It is a very long journey, so flying or the train is usually far better than driving.

  • Most travellers fly Nagpur to Delhi (about 1.5 hours), then drive 3 to 3.5 hours to Braj.

  • Nagpur is India's central rail junction, with many trains towards Mathura Junction.

  • If you drive, break it overnight, and Gwalior or Agra make fine stops.

I am Gurudutt, born in Gokul in the Mathura district, guiding pilgrims through Braj since 2018, more than 50,000 of them. Many who come to us travel from Nagpur and central India, drawn to Krishna's land. Here is everything you need, told by someone who receives these travellers: the exact distances and routes both ways, the train and flight options, the best way to travel over such a long distance, and the last leg into Vrindavan.

Nagpur to Vrindavan distance and driving routes

By road, the distance from Nagpur to Vrindavan is about 900 to 972 km, and the drive takes roughly 17 to 21.5 hours depending on the route, straight up through the heart of India. There are three main ways.

The straight NH 44 route is much the best, both shortest and quickest, running up through Sagar, Gwalior and Agra; the NH 44 line is far quicker than the alternatives. This is far too long a drive for one stretch, so break it overnight, at Gwalior or Agra, and share the driving. A car that knows the roads makes it easier; our Mathura Vrindavan taxi service can carry you the whole way or meet you for the last leg.

Vrindavan to Nagpur distance (the return journey)

The road back, from Vrindavan to Nagpur, is much the same, about 900 to 972 km and 17 to 20.5 hours. If you are planning the reverse leg, these are the main routes.

Nagpur to Vrindavan by train

For so long a journey, the train is a comfortable and popular choice, and it spares you the long drive. There is no major station in Vrindavan, so you travel to Mathura Junction, the railhead for Braj, and drive the last 14 km. Nagpur is India's central rail junction, with many trains towards Mathura, and an overnight journey is a restful way to cover the distance.

  • Where to board: trains run from Nagpur Junction towards Mathura Junction.

  • How long it takes: roughly 14 to 18 hours depending on the service; overnight trains are ideal.

  • The last leg: from Mathura Junction, Vrindavan is about 14 km, around 30 minutes, and we can meet you.

  • Book ahead: reserve your Nagpur to Mathura ticket well in advance, especially in festival season.

Nagpur to Vrindavan by air

For this distance, flying is by far the quickest and most popular way. Nagpur has a major airport (Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International) with flights to Delhi, and the nearest airport to Braj is Delhi, about 150 km away. A flight from Nagpur to Delhi, about 1.5 hours, then a 3 to 3.5 hour drive to Vrindavan, is far quicker than the 17-hour road journey. For most travellers from Nagpur, flying via Delhi is the best way.

  • Nagpur has a major airport with frequent flights to Delhi.

  • Nearest airport to Braj: Delhi, about 150 km away.

  • Fly Nagpur to Delhi (about 1.5 hours), then drive 3 to 3.5 hours to Vrindavan.

  • Flying via Delhi is far quicker than the long road journey, and the usual choice.

Nagpur to Vrindavan by bus

Buses run from Nagpur towards Sagar, Gwalior, Agra and the Delhi side, taking around 18 to 22 hours, and are the budget option. But they are very long and tiring over such a distance, so a flight or an overnight train is far easier and worth the extra cost for most travellers.

The best way to travel

The right choice depends on your time and budget. Flying to Delhi and driving on is by far the quickest; an overnight train is comfortable and good value; a private car is direct but very long and best broken overnight; and the bus is the cheapest but the most tiring. The table sets them side by side.

A quick comparison. Over this distance, flying via Delhi or an overnight train is usually best.

Breaking the journey and what to see on the way

If you do drive, this very long journey must be broken overnight, and Gwalior, with its magnificent hilltop fort, or Agra, with the Taj Mahal, both on the route in the later stages, make fine stops. Nearer Braj, Agra is a natural place to pause for the Taj, ideally at sunrise, before the final short drive. Whether you fly, train or drive, plan the journey so you arrive rested for the darshan.

What to see when you arrive

Once in Vrindavan, the darshans begin. The most beloved is the Banke Bihari temple, best in the cool morning, and the grand Prem Mandir with its evening light show. Add ISKCON Vrindavan for its continuous kirtan, and the evening Yamuna aarti at Kesi Ghat. In nearby Mathura, see the Krishna Janmabhoomi, the birthplace, and the grand Dwarkadhish temple. After a long journey, an overnight stay lets you take the darshan unhurried; see our Mathura Vrindavan hotels.

The best time to visit

The cool months of October to March are much the best for the journey and for Braj, pleasant on the road and at the temples, while the summer is very hot for such a long drive. If you travel in the festival season, around Janmashtami, Radhashtami, Diwali or Holi, expect the town to be joyful but crowded, and book ahead. See our best time to visit Mathura Vrindavan guide and the Mathura Vrindavan festivals calendar for the seasons in full.

Tips for the journey

  • For this distance, fly Nagpur to Delhi and drive 3 to 3.5 hours to Braj; it is the quickest way.

  • An overnight train from Nagpur Junction to Mathura Junction is a comfortable, good-value alternative.

  • If you drive, take the NH 44 route and break the journey overnight at Gwalior or Agra.

  • Add Agra's Taj near the end of the route, and Gwalior's fort on the way, if you drive.

  • Book trains, flights and hotels well ahead, especially in festival season.

  • Come October to March for the most pleasant weather over such a long journey.

The honest bit

Honest words on the Nagpur to Vrindavan journey, from one born in Braj. Let me be plain: this is a very long trip, about 900 km and 17 hours or more by road, so please do not try to drive it in one stretch. For most travellers from Nagpur, flying to Delhi and driving on, or taking an overnight train, is far easier and often no dearer once you count the fuel, the tolls and the strain of such a long drive, especially with elders. If you do drive, break it overnight and share the wheel. Distances and times are approximate and shift with traffic. For the last leg and once you are here, a car that knows the town saves you time and touts; if you would rather break the journey or stay the night, an early booking secures a good stay.

Why Experience My India is the right choice

I was born in Gokul in the Mathura district, and I welcome travellers from Nagpur and central India every week. Guiding since 2018, more than 50,000 pilgrims, 4.5 stars on Google, WhatsApp first, 8 AM to 9 PM daily. Whether you fly, train or drive in, we meet you at Delhi airport, Mathura Junction or your doorstep, carry you around the temples in the right order, and, if you wish, add Agra and the Taj to the trip, a natural stop near the route, with the stories told on the ground and no touts. One clear fare, and never a charge for free darshan.

Tip from Gurudutt: over so long a distance, choose comfort, and you will enjoy the darshan far more. Fly to Delhi and let us drive you the last stretch to Braj, arriving fresh for the dawn darshan of Banke Bihari, or take a restful overnight train from Nagpur, India's great railway heart. And since Agra lies near the route, add the Taj at sunrise. Save your energy for the temples of Krishna's land, not the highway, and the long journey from Nagpur becomes a joyful pilgrimage.
