Rohtak, the busy city of Haryana and Vrindavan, the temple town of Krishna, sit within an easy three-and-a-half-hour drive, thanks to the Western Peripheral Expressway, which lets you skip Delhi altogether and sweep south to Braj. For Rohtak's many devotees of Krishna, the journey to his land is quick and comfortable. Here, from one born in Braj, is the complete guide to the Rohtak to Vrindavan distance, the routes both ways and the best way to travel. Plan your visit with our Mathura Vrindavan tour packages.

Key takeaways

  • Rohtak to Vrindavan is about 208 to 241 km, roughly 3.5 hours by road.

  • The fastest route uses the Western Peripheral Expressway and NH 44, about 212 km in around 3 hours 33 minutes.

  • The Western Peripheral Expressway lets you skip Delhi entirely.

  • Avoid the Yamuna Expressway route here (about 241 km), which detours east and is slower.

  • A car is the most flexible; the train is a comfortable alternative.

  • Vrindavan lies only 14 km beyond Mathura, an easy pairing.

I am Gurudutt, born in Gokul in the Mathura district, guiding pilgrims through Braj since 2018, more than 50,000 of them. Many who come to us travel from Rohtak and Haryana, west of Delhi. Here is everything you need, told by someone who receives these travellers and knows the roads: the exact distances and routes both ways, the train and other options, the best way to travel and the darshan at the end.

Rohtak to Vrindavan distance and driving routes

By road, the distance from Rohtak to Vrindavan is about 208 to 241 km and the drive takes roughly 3.5 hours. The key is the Western Peripheral Expressway, which sweeps around the west and south of Delhi to NH 44, avoiding the city. There are three main ways.

All the best routes use the Western Peripheral Expressway (the KMP or Kundli-Manesar-Palwal expressway) to skirt Delhi and join NH 44 south to Braj; they are close in time, around 3.5 hours. This is the key to a quick drive, avoiding the Delhi traffic entirely. On the day, live traffic decides the smoothest line and a car that knows the roads picks it; our Mathura Vrindavan taxi service can carry you the whole way and on to Vrindavan.

Vrindavan to Rohtak distance (the return journey)

The road back is much the same, about 208 to 241 km and 3.75 to 4.5 hours. Note that the Yamuna Expressway route, at 241 km, detours east and is slower here, so the Western Peripheral route is better. Here are the main routes.

Rohtak to Vrindavan by train

The train is a comfortable option, as Rohtak is a junction on the Delhi line. There is no major station in Vrindavan, so you travel to Mathura Junction, the railhead for Braj and drive the last 14 km to Vrindavan. Trains run via the Delhi side, taking around 4 to 6 hours; from Mathura, we can meet you.

  • Where to board: trains run from Rohtak Junction towards Mathura Junction, usually via Delhi.

  • How long it takes: roughly 4 to 6 hours depending on the service.

  • The last leg: from Mathura Junction, Vrindavan is about 14 km, around 30 minutes.

  • Book ahead: reserve your Rohtak to Mathura ticket in advance in the tourist season.

Rohtak to Vrindavan by air

For this distance, flying makes no sense. Rohtak has no airport; the nearest major one is Delhi, which the Western Peripheral Expressway skirts anyway, so you would drive. A car or the train between Rohtak and Braj is far simpler than any flight.

  • Rohtak has no airport.

  • Nearest major airport: Delhi, skirted by the Western Peripheral Expressway.

  • Coming soon: the new Noida International Airport at Jewar will be near Braj.

  • For the Rohtak to Vrindavan journey itself, a car or the train is the answer.

Rohtak to Vrindavan by bus

Buses run from Rohtak towards Delhi and on towards Mathura, taking around 5 to 6 hours and are the budget option. But they are slower and less comfortable over this distance, so a car or the train is far easier for most travellers.

The best way to travel

The right choice depends on your time and budget. A private car is the most flexible, taking you door to door, around Delhi on the expressway and on to Vrindavan; the train to Mathura is a comfortable alternative; and the bus is the cheapest but slowest. The table sets them side by side.

A quick comparison. For Rohtak to Braj, a car or the train is easiest.

Breaking the journey and what to see on the way

This is a quick half-day drive, best on the Western Peripheral Expressway to skip Delhi. Mathura, the birthplace of Krishna, is the goal and Vrindavan lies just 14 km beyond, so you may take the Krishna Janmabhoomi and drive on to the temple town. The two towns are always visited together and the short drive makes an easy day trip from Rohtak.

What to see when you arrive

Once in Braj, the darshans begin. In Vrindavan, see the beloved Banke Bihari temple, the marble Prem Mandir with its evening light show, the kirtan of ISKCON and the evening Yamuna aarti at Kesi Ghat. In nearby Mathura, see the Dwarkadhish temple and the Vishram Ghat. With the two towns only 14 km apart, you can see the best of both; for an overnight stay, see our Mathura Vrindavan hotels.

The best time to visit

The cool months of October to March are much the best for the journey and for Braj, pleasant on the road and at the temples, while the summer is hot. Note that December and January can bring dense fog on the northern plains and expressway, which slows the drive. Braj is gloriously alive, though very crowded, during Janmashtami, Holi and Diwali. See our best time to visit Mathura Vrindavan guide and the Mathura Vrindavan festivals calendar.

Tips for the journey

  • Take the Western Peripheral Expressway with NH 44; it skirts Delhi and is the quickest.

  • Avoid the Yamuna Expressway route from Rohtak, which detours east and is slower.

  • The train from Rohtak to Mathura, via Delhi, is a comfortable alternative.

  • See both towns; Vrindavan is only 14 km beyond Mathura.

  • Avoid the December-January fog on the plains and expressway if you can or allow extra time.

  • Come October to March for the most pleasant weather.

The honest bit

Honest words on the Rohtak to Vrindavan journey, from one born in Braj. This is a quick half-day drive of about 210 km and one of the easier trips to Braj from Haryana, thanks to the Western Peripheral Expressway, which sweeps you around Delhi and south to Krishna's land in about 3.5 hours. The key is to use that expressway, not to drive through Delhi or detour east on the Yamuna Expressway, which is slower from here; a local driver knows the best line. The train from Rohtak is comfortable too. Vrindavan is only 14 km beyond Mathura, so see both. Beware the winter fog. Distances and times are approximate.

Why Experience My India is the right choice

I was born in Gokul in the Mathura district and I welcome travellers from Rohtak and Haryana every week. Guiding since 2018, more than 50,000 pilgrims, 4.5 stars on Google, WhatsApp first, 8 AM to 9 PM daily. Whether you drive or train in, we meet you at Mathura Junction or your doorstep, take the quickest route around Delhi, carry you around the temples of Vrindavan and Mathura in the right order, walk you into the old-town temples cars cannot reach and arrange any seva, with no touts. One clear fare and never a charge for free darshan.

Tip from Gurudutt: The Western Peripheral Expressway is your friend from Rohtak; it sweeps you clean around the west and south of Delhi and onto NH 44 for Braj, saving you the city entirely. Set out early, take that road and you will reach Krishna's land by late morning for the darshan, with time to see both Mathura and Vrindavan and end at the Yamuna aarti before driving home the same day. A quick, easy day trip to the whole heart of Braj.
