What is Barsana?
Barsana is the village of Radha, the daughter of King Vrishabhanu, set upon Bhanugarh hill of four peaks. Its crown is the hilltop Radha Rani temple, also called Ladli Ji or Shriji, one of the very few temples in the world dedicated chiefly to Radha, reached by about 200 to 225 steps or a ropeway or palki. On another peak stands the Maan Mandir, where Krishna soothed Radha's loving sulk and nearby lie the lovely Prem Sarovar and Sanket. Barsana is the queen's village and 'Radhe Radhe' is the very air of the place.
What is Nandgaon?
Nandgaon is the village of Krishna or rather of Nanda Baba, his foster father, who brought the family here from Gokul, so that Krishna spent much of his boyhood in Nandgaon. Its crown is the hilltop Nand Bhavan temple, the home of Nanda, where Krishna is worshipped as Nandnandan, the darling son of Nanda, with Nanda, Yashoda and Balarama. Below lies the sacred Pan Sarovar, one of Braj's holiest tanks and nearby is the forest temple of Kokilavan Shani Dev Dham. Nandgaon is Krishna's boyhood home, facing Radha's Barsana across the plain.

If you truly must pick one, Barsana, with its grand hilltop Radha Rani temple, is the more visited and the easier to reach and the greater draw at Radhashtami and Lathmar Holi; Nandgaon is quieter and homelier, Krishna's boyhood village.
