By road, the distance is about 148 to 152 km, and the drive takes roughly 2 hours 45 minutes. Because Barsana lies to the west of Mathura, towards the Rajasthan border, the routes use the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and NH 44 rather than the Yamuna Expressway. There are two main ways from Ghaziabad.

There is no airport at Barsana or Mathura; the nearest major one is Delhi, from which Ghaziabad and the NCR are already close, so you would drive in any case. Since the road journey from Ghaziabad is a comfortable half-day, a car is by far the simplest way.

The cool months of October to March are much the best for the journey and the hill climb, while the summer is fierce on the exposed hilltop. Barsana is at its most spectacular, and most crowded, during Lathmar Holi, a few days before the main Holi, and at Radhashtami, Radha's birthday and the greatest day at Barsana.
